The French artist Olivier Grossetête will be associating art with architecture at the Sydney Festival in January 2016 through his ‘Ephemeral City’ project, one of the greatest community participation events. All people are invited to build together with their hands a monumental city only using cardboard and tape and not machines nor cranes. Sydney Festival will also organise BOXWARS’ workshops for children where they will be able to express their creativity with cardboard. Moreover, there will be a panorama called ‘Flying Fox’ between the cardboard buildings on a huge 165m zip line.
The artist has played a lot with ‘ephemeral architecture’ and collective performances thanks to the participation of the public. He has built cardboard cities around Europe (Marseille in France, Glastonbury and Glasgow in the UK), each of which reflects his own interpretation of the local architecture and community.
