Engineer and artist Alex Reben created a corrugated robot equipped with sensors and a high resolution video camera for his Masters thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The robot roamed around autonomously and using several methods to encourage interaction (including looking cute), the robot was able to pull stories from people and create a documentary.
BlabDroid, the company that aims to commercialize the small talking cardboard robot next year, says it can film, entertain, and educate with quizzes, games and interviews.
Why use corrugated? Alex Reben wanted people to connect with the robot and to talk freely. During his research he found out that people reacted much better to a robot made out of soft paper-based material rather than plastic.
